The High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) is the country's premier facility working under auspices of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for handling exotic and emerging pathogens of animals by virtue of its bio-safety level-IV containment laboratory and animal experimentation facility. Since its inception in June 2000, HSADL has contributed significantly by checking entry of many animal diseases to our country. With its ranking 10th in the world, HSADL is one of the few bio-safety level-4 facilities around the globe and the only one in whole of Asia at present

In the past, many animal diseases entered into the country through import of superior germplasm or from the borders, and by the time the disease could be diagnosed epidemics had already occurred. This was because, none of the laboratories in India were equipped to handle exotic (foreign) pathogens of animal as there was risk of escape of organisms from the laboratories to the surrounding environment resulting in infection of native animal population.

International Workshop on Biosafety inaugurated at HSADL
The three day workshop on Laboratory Biosafety and Biosecurity was inaugurated by Chief guest Honourable Dr. Ajay Vishnoi, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Backward Class and Minorities Welfare, Govt of M. What is BVD
Bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) is a highly damaging, contagious, worldwide prevalent viral disease of cattle. The disease has been listed by OIE as a priority disease in cattle. It has many clinical presentations although, interestingly enough, diarrhea is not the most common observation. BVD is related to both border disease (BD) of sheep and goats and classical swine fever CSF) of pigs.
